Strathcona County Fire Fighters Union Local 2461 is a member of the International Association of Fire Fighters, representing 154 members of Strathcona County Emergency Services. Strathcona County is located in Alberta, Canada. The county is situated around Sherwood Park, a specialized municipality, just east of the provincial capital Edmonton. Emergency Services staff serve 88,000 residents and major industries in both rural and urban areas. The Countys area of 1268 square kilometers includes the urban centre of Sherwood Park and a surrounding rural area with rural hamlets, acreage developments, farms and significant industrial applications.

Strathcona County Fire Fighters became affiliated with the International Association of Fire Fighters on September 16, 1975. The local originally consisted of 16 members.

Our members work out of 3 stations, with the 4th slated to open May 8th, 2013, providing advanced life support ambulances, fire suppression and rescue services.

Our emergency response members are trained as fire fighters, and are also, registered paramedics and EMTs . The alarms ring in the hall and we respond in the appropriate vehicles for the response, often working as a team at vehicle collisions requiring extrication and EMS. The same can be said at structure fires. Our fire fighters can provide suppression and rescue efforts while providing a high level of medical care without waiting for a separate service.

Our dynamic and ever evolving department is proud to provide the highest level of service to the community. Over the past few years we have been building a Special Operations Teams, Technical Rescue and Water Rescue Team.
